How to choose an office chair

  • Seat height: your feet should rest flat on the floor with your knees at about 90°. Check the height range against your desk.
  • Lumbar support: adjustable lumbar support helps most if you sit for more than a few hours a day.
  • Armrests: adjustable (2D, 3D or 4D) armrests let your shoulders relax while you type.
  • Mesh or PU leather: mesh breathes and stays cooler; PU leather is easy to clean but can feel warm.
  • Weight capacity and warranty: check both before you buy, especially for budget chairs.

Office chair FAQ

How much should I spend on an office chair?

Spend according to how many hours you sit. For a few hours a day, a simple mesh chair is usually enough. For full workdays, adjustable lumbar support, seat depth and armrests matter more than brand, so prioritize adjustability within your budget.

Mesh or leather: which is better?

Mesh is more breathable and usually better in warm rooms. Leather and PU leather look more formal and are easy to wipe, but can feel hot. Read the full comparison.

Are gaming chairs good for working from home?

They can be, especially models with lumbar pillows and a reclining back. Many gaming chairs have wide side bolsters, so check the seat width and armrest adjustments if you sit for long workdays.

How do I set up my chair correctly?

Feet flat on the floor, thighs roughly level, a small gap behind the knees, lumbar support at the curve of your lower back and elbows near 90 degrees. Our ergonomic home office setup guide walks through each step.
